Welcome to BESCR

July 8th, 2008
    Bike Engined Sports Car Racing

THE CONCEPT

To offer a professional inclusive and open environment for bike engine sports cars to race under controlled yet ‘development friendly’ regulations.

There is, we believe room in the UK and Europe for a multi brand, bike engine sports car series. Designed we hope to attract teams and privateers, production and prototype cars.

There is of course a dominance of Radical in the single make environment and we want them involved with us, however by offering a credible series we are looking to attract all bike engine sports car manufacturers and owners, leading to a development and innovation culture within the niche.

THE PEOPLE INVOLVED

 Jean ‘JP’ Parker- Facet Marketing Ltd. Promotion, marketing and series coordinator.
 Graham Hathaway Racing Ltd- Technical and operational.
 Iain Cumming- Technical support and eligibility coordinator.

The whole concept has been under consideration for over eighteen months by Jean Parker and Iain Cumming. Both run bike engine sports cars themselves and have an active involvement in current bike engine series in the UK.

Association with Graham Hathaway Racing Ltd has brought years of experience in bike engine sports cars. Graham owns and runs Global Sports Racing Cars, a very successful and pioneering brand in the development of bike engine sports car racing. His personal experience in running championships has helped to establish the framework for BESCR.

The BRSCC have seen what we are trying to achieve and have offered us an initial platform at the Brands hatch Formula Ford Festival in October. Leading up to this launch and beyond we will be developing the details behind the full series for 2009.

THE THOUGHT PROCESS

By specifying bike engine solutions only (in standard and modified form) we are choosing a proven, reasonable cost/performance ratio power train solution supported by many professional engine sources.

Exclusion of car engines and sensible class weight limits means that within class and across the grid we will see a balanced field of cars. Close racing is essential for everyone. Sensible planning and regulation will ensure this.

We are all determined to make BESCR a professional environment. Designed to attract cars manufacturers, drivers and sponsors alike. Not only developing things this way, but managing and maintaining them for the long term.

These cars are attractive to watch and are very quick. Our series needs to be equally as attractive to be involved in as a racer, sponsor or spectator.

Other places to race in open GT or bike powered series are all compromised in some way. We want to bring all the essential elements together and get it right.

THE SERIES

We are currently busy setting up our inaugural meeting (detailed below) that will act as a platform from which we will finalise our 2009 specific plans.

Key objectives for October and 2009 series:

 Open series with specific class structures balancing performance as far as possible. Intention of bringing out existing European manufacturers and attracting global brands to the UK that currently don’t have a targeted place to race.

 ‘Development’ friendly regs based on car specifications already in production. We want to make sure existing bike engined sports cars of this nature can roll out and race without unnecessary modification whilst allowing innovation and development across the cars.

 Exciting race venues, formats and durations. A value conscious racing package with selected headline meetings throughout the year.

 Consistent regulation and eligibility enforcement. Customer oriented administration and ethos within the series.

 Maximum marketing support pre, at and post event. Team and driver oriented promotion. Series and personal sponsor friendly environment with TV and web based promotion and full at event hospitality.

The Launch Race (17th -19th Oct) Brands Hatch Formula Ford Festival

Inaugural BESCR Race & Series Opener

So, here it is. Hot off the press. Outline details of the, opening, BESCR event, in October, at which BESCR are confident you’ll get a flavour of the quality and customer focus that you should expect from us in 2009 and into the future.

Of the many meetings that make up our country’s varied motor racing season, we are sure you’ll agree that the BRSCC Formula Ford Festival is a, front-line, feature event, in the UK calendar, and we are pleased and proud to announce that we have secured this meeting as the venue for our opening race.

As an established motor racing spectacle, this event will not only serve as an outstanding launch pad for BESCR but – it should follow – has the potential to raise the profile of every car, driver, and sponsor that is involved.

Even more important than the spectacle – and the good value hospitality that we are intending to attach to our events – is the racing that you’ll enjoy, and (subject to final confirmation - to say nothing of your input) we are proposing the following for the FF Festival:

•The quality, attention detail and efficiency of a headline BRSCC meeting

•Practice/Qualifying Sessions – 20 Minutes (Two Driver Entries Welcome)

•Racing – One 30 Minute Mini Endurance Race, With a Fixed Window & Minimum Duration (Driver Change Optional) pit stop

•Class Structure (For This Event ONLY. 2009 Regulations are in discussion)

•Up To 1100cc ‘Standard’ (Inc Radical Clubsport) – 475kg Minimum Weight (Wet With Driver)

•Up To 1300cc ‘Modified’ – 550kg Minimum Weight (Wet With Driver)

•Hospitality – Provided On Saturday Evening and Sunday Daytime

•Event filmed for broadcast on Motorsports World (Sky TV)

•Entry Fee - £325 (Discount Available For Fully Paid Entries Made Prior To 31 August 2008)

•Entry forms (see link in BESCR on the forum)

We are currently in discussion with the Irish Global Lights coordinators about offering a 600cc class to accommodate their cars and have also had a number of approaches about running a 1200cc and or 1500cc class to accommodate the Radical SR’s. Both will be finalised before the end of July.

Without final regulations in place or a full PR launch we have already had undertakings from a substantial number of drivers. The response has been very positive, better than we could have hoped for.
